Meet Juanice!

We want to introduce you to one of our customers. Meet Juanice! She lives in Georgia and is the owner of a coffee roasting business, Java Genesis Coffee Roasting. She recently purchased the Large Tote in camo and a Tote of Many Colors in chocolate.

Maggie Bags: Where is the last place your Maggie Bag went?
Juanice: Customer deliveries. I actually carry the coffee in my Maggie Bag!

Maggie Bags: Tell us about your business.
Juanice: My husband and I discovered fresh roasted coffee 15 years ago. We had been driving into downtown Atlanta to buy it because fresh roasted tastes so much better. Then my husband discovered we could roast coffee at home on home roasting machine. We started giving away samples to friends and family and before long we thought “we should start a business!” About a year ago, we decided to pursue our dreams and started Java Genesis.

Maggie Bags: How did you come up with the name?
Juanice: Funny story€¦ we drank a lot of beer one night and just made up the name. Java for coffee and Genesis because we’re creating fresh roasted coffee from these green coffee beans. My favorite is the Costa Rica La Amistad. We also sell at the local farmer’s market.

Maggie Bags: What are your favorite non-work pastimes?
Juanice: Cycling. Although this new business has left me little time for it! In Puerto Rico every January there’s a 3-day ride, 375 miles, and you ride around the entire island. We’ve done it once and would love to train again for it.

Maggie Bags: Everyday uniform?
Juanice: Usually have on sweatshirt with Java Genesis logo, jeans and hiking boots.

Maggie Bags: Who inspires you?
Juanice: My dad. He’s 73 and always learning and always looking for new challenges. I really admire that about him and I hope to have those same type of traits.

Maggie Bags:
Little known fact about you?
Juanice: I was a competitive gymnast when I was eight. I grew up in Florida and competed in the Junior Olympics for State of Florida.

Maggie Bags: How do you unwind?
Juanice: We have a favorite bar that carries 100+ kinds of beer. We like to stop in and see what the latest one is. I enjoy talking with the bartenders because they are the same way about beer as I am about coffee.

Maggie Bags: Next stop?
Juanice: I’m very excited to see what 2013 holds.  Looking forward to meeting finding awesome new coffees to roast, meeting new customers and getting back on my bike!
