Meet Roe!
We want to introduce you to one of our customers. Meet Roe. She lives in Long Island, New York. She’s a diesel mechanic, welder and fabricator! She has quite the collection of Maggie Bags, including three Hobos, a Medium Tote, a Large Tote, two cosmetic bags, a Tote of Many Colors and a Small Clutch. Roe is such an interesting lady! It’s rare to meet a female mechanic (actually, I’ve never met one) and she is a “what you see is what you get” kind of gal.
Roe got her first Maggie Bag a few years ago and fell in love. It made so much sense considering her career path. She had about fifty handbags at the time and ended up donating those to charity and just using Maggie Bags. Here’s some of her collection:
Maggie Bags: What challenges do you face as a female mechanic in a mostly man’s world?
Roe: Well, you need a thick skin and have got to be tough. I’ve had a lot of challenges in the past with male bosses. One even said “A woman doesn’t belong in the shop, she belongs in the kitchen.” There were times I came home from my old job hysterically crying. About six months ago I began working with my boyfriend, Derrick, at a new place and I feel right at home there. He’s been a huge support in my life and I love him so much. I feel like at my new job I’m really able to grow and flourish.
Maggie Bags: What’s your favorite adult beverage?
Roe: Tequila! Patron. I like it mixed with anything or just shooting it.
Maggie Bags: How many tattoos do you have?
Roe: Not an amount anymore, just total hours!
Maggie Bags: Who inspires you?
Roe: My mom for sure and also my “second mom”, Joan. They’re both fighters. Recently Joan has experienced some health issues and she has just plowed right through it, taking it in stride.
Maggie Bags: Tell us about your dog.
Roe: I have a rescue Pitbull named Felony. I didn’t name her that! She wouldn’t answer to anything else so the name stuck. She’s a big sweetheart in spite of her name.
Maggie Bags: What are some of your favorite places and spaces?
Roe: Wherever I am I’m always listening to the Deftones. I’ve listened to them for fifteen years now and never get bored. I feel at home in my cars â¬â I have a 2005 Volkswagen GTI, a 2006 Volkswagen GTI, and a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta. My favorite place to visit is probably Montauck Point, New York. There’s a lighthouse there and being there just clears my mind.
The Maggie Bags community is filled with women who have passion. It was so much fun to talk with Roe and learn what she is passionate about. What a great success story!
Our next spotlight is sure to be just as interesting. Keep reading the blog for the next spotlight.
