Customer Spotlight: Roe in New York

Meet Roe! We want to introduce you to one of our customers. Meet Roe. She lives in Long Island, New York. She’s a diesel mechanic, welder and fabricator! She has quite the collection of Maggie Bags, including three Hobos, a Medium Tote, a Large Tote, two cosmetic bags, a Tote of Many Colors and a Small Clutch. Roe is such an interesting lady! It’s rare to meet a female mechanic (actually, I’ve never met one) and she is a “what you see is what you get” kind of gal. Roe got her first Maggie Bag a few years ago and.. Read More »

Homemade Salted Caramel Sauce

There's nothing like a warm house on a chilly day with sweet smells wafting through the air. When you whip up a batch of this homemade caramel sauce everyone will want to know what's cooking! It smells dreamy, tastes even better, and best of all it's very simple to make- no candy thermometer required. This recipe was passed down to me from my grandma, and I've tweaked it a bit over the years to make it absolutely fool proof. Anyone can have success with this recipe, and once you try it you'll never want  to buy store bought caramel sauce again!   .. Read More »

Give Green: Black Friday Freebies

Giving Green and Saving Green One of my favorite aspects of couponing is it affords me to be very generous—what I call “giving green.” I’m trying to teach my children that giving during the holidays is equally important to getting. Please consider picking up a few of these to donate to worthy causes. Now, there are freebies nearly every week but never this many at once. Black Friday week is considered the Super Bowl of Freebies! You will find lots of free goodies in oral hygiene, multivitamins, and hair care at Walgreen’s Black Friday sale, but my favorite store for.. Read More »

Recipe: Creamy Alfredo Shrimp with Kale

I have been on a kale kick lately. My four-year old however is boycotting green vegetables out of the blue, so I have been trying various green veggies in dishes he already loves to try to add a bit more nutrients into his diet. He is eating vegetables but cucumbers, carrots and corn are not enough! (I hope this is a short phase as he has always been a great vegetable eater.) Anyways, I tried a version of my homemade creamy Alfredo shrimp and added kale in the mix. It turned out delicious and he got the added power.. Read More »

Green Printing

Saving on Printing Cost While Being Green In addition to being into green living and sustainability, I’m also a huge couponer. I wouldn’t qualify to be on “Extreme Couponing,” but I save an average of $6000 a year. To save even more this year, I’m investing in a new printer that will help me go green and save green. For years, Jenny at Southern Savers has been recommending the Brother HL2240 to print coupons. This laser printer uses far less ink than traditional ink jet printers by printing in black and white, and the coupons reportedly scan better at registers—thus.. Read More »

Shred ‘em and Spread ‘em

You've raked up the leaves, now what?   Leaves, leaves, leaves…everywhere I turn there are mounds of the crunchy reminders that fall is in full swing. The maple in our front yard has almost finished dropping its crimson jewels; now we have work to do. But rather than look at it as a chore, I see another opportunity to Go Green and Save Green.   According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 27 percent of U.S. waste is leftover food and yard trimmings. That’s more than a fourth of our trash that could be turned from a problem into a valuable.. Read More »

Behind the Scenes at Maggie Bags: The 2013 Catalog Photo Shoot

Sneak Peek of Our 2013 Catalog Photo Shoot! The theme for the 2013 catalog shoot was “Old City, Modern Americana.” For those not familiar with Knoxville, Tennessee, there is an area downtown called the Old City. This restored district includes cobblestone streets, quaint coffee shops, and eclectic boutiques. We were inspired by several Maggie Bags sets in our Polyvore collection featuring both classic and vintage looks, with a modern twist.      We began the day at Old City Java, which serves amazing lattes and delectable pastries to get your morning started right. We first worked on pictures of the.. Read More »

Here’s the coolest things we saw this week on Pinterest! Filed under “Why didn’t I think of that?” … Using an upside down table as a toddler bed. What a genius way to upcycle and old piece of furniture How to deseed a pomegranate. I wish I had known about this long ago. DIY :: How To Make Flower Hair Accessories

Don’t you love getting a second use out of  household items while also getting to break out your glue gun?  I sure do!  Like many busy moms,  after a long work week I love crafting with my kids and teaching lessons along the way.  For instance, my little girls have found there are sometimes treasures in what some may consider ready for the trash.   If you have any old floral arrangements hanging around the house, don’t throw them out just yet – you can make them into funky fun hair accessories for your kids or yourself!   Here are.. Are Sulfates Damaging Your Skin?

What's Making My Skin So Dry?  About three years ago I noticed a major change in my skin - mainly on my palms. In the center of each palm was a dry, scaly, itchy patch of skin. At first I thought “Is this the stigmata?” but then rational thought kicked in and I decided to try dousing these spots with lotion. The lotion didn’t seem to be working, so after a few weeks I went to a dermatologist friend of mine. He said that as we get older our skin becomes dryer. He asked if I’d changed soaps or lotions... Friday Pinterest Round-Up

The Coolest Things I Saw on Pinterest This Week  Recently after a get-together at a friend’s house, we had tons of used plastic cups. We washed them out and I’ve been trying to think of something to do with them. Well here it is! What a wonderful idea and so functional too.   The second thing I saw that I absolutely love is this idea for a headband holder.  Take an old oatmeal canister and paint it. You can store brushes, ponytail holders and barrettes inside of it and then use the outside for headbands. Genius!   Alert! Pinterest Fail  I.. Read More »
