Snow globes bring such wonder and sparkle to our Holidays I wonder why we don't make them for every season, oh wait its the snow part isn't it? Let's start calling them Glitter Globes then we can have them out all the time! I tried making snow globe ornaments last year and needless to say they were gorgeous, but much to heavy for my little Charlie Brown Christmas tree. After making this Snow Glob your home or office will surely we filled with joy and maybe even rainbows like mine. (I think its the holographic glitter that creates this effect.)
Here's what you will need:
- Jar
- Vegetable Glycerine
- Glitter
- Distilled Water
- Super Glue
- Figurines
- Tiny Mirror Ball
- Circular Mirror
- Star Sequins
The last three on the list are where my creativity took me. Allow yourself to get inspired and experiment. I'm a firm believer that we are all perfectly different and I think our crafting should also reflect that. The circle mirror ground makes we wish I had ice skater figurines or swans! How pretty would that be!
I started with all the gluing: star sequins to the tops of my little trees, the circle mirror to the lid, and lastly the trees to the mirror. Don't be afraid to use ample amounts of super glue to get the trees or your figurines stuck where you want them, I didn't use enough glue the first time and one of my trees became a floater. Super glue does set quick so get them where you want them quick. Try to avoid the inevitable stuck finger situation as best you can. And remember to get as creative and customized as you want.
Next, add your distilled water and a tablespoon of vegetable glycerine. Leave enough room for your figurines so that water is not displaced when you add the lid.
Now for the sparkles! You really don't need much glitter, but if you're like me you'll just want it to be as sparkly as possible. Drop in the mini mirror ball because why shouldn't there be a dance party in the middle of a snow storm? This will also lend to extra light refractions if you set it in a window or near a light. The ball will float because it has a buoyant center.
One last step before we screw on the lid band, and that is to outline the lid with super glue so there are no leaks. I am wishing I skipped this step the first time until I knew all of my trees had enough glue on them. Maybe you will want to screw your lid on and turn it upside down to make sure everything is secure before adding this final seal. If you are confident you have used enough glue with your figurines then go ahead and outline your lid with glue and quickly cap your jar and screw on the lid band.
GLITTER DONE! What crafty items are you making this holiday season?
