Going green is the new black. Everyone wants to be more eco friendly and what better way to show the world than through your wardrobe. Here at Maggie bags, we have decided to try and be as “green” as possible this summer. Here are a few tips to get you started when creating your best summer wardrobe yet!
- Buy Vintage or Used: Through the years we have seen all kinds of trends pop back up from the past. Bell bottom jeans, leopard print, and big hair have all made a full circle and we are seeing them all again. Make the most of this and go to your local goodwill or clothing exchange store for your newest outfit and turn someone else's unwanted clothes into your newest look.
- Purge Your Closet: In relation to buying your new clothes from a second hand store, go through your closet and pick out all of the old things you don't wear and let them be someone else's treasure. This will open up some closet space for your new items, as well as offer others a wider selection in their “green” shopping.
- Wear Organic: Moms are always checking labels to see if items are 100% cotton. This was fine in the past, but now there are more ways to find organic cotton in stores. Regular cotton produces tons of pollution as well as unhealthy exposure to the farmers who grow it, so be “green” and purchase truly clean cotton.
- Re-Create: Creating a new product out of unwanted material is how Maggie Bags originated. By taking old seatbelt, we have created stylish purses while being "green". In the past we have seen also people make products such as purses out of old jean pockets and garbage such as juice pouches. See if you can have the next best idea. If you have old, worn out clothes, see if you can use them for something new. Instead of throwing out an old T-shirt, use it as a dish towel. Opposed to getting rid of an old blouse due to missing buttons, try and spice it up by adding different buttons to it. By making your own look out of something old, you will reduce waste in the landfills and hopefully get a compliment for your newest design while being “green”.
